Cembrit Cemsix provides stylish finish for Passivhaus project

Cembrit’s B5 corrugated roofing sheets

Cembrit Cemsix has been installed on a modern, low energy home in Colerne near Bath, that has been designed and built to Passivhaus standards — delivering on quality, comfort and energy efficiency.

Greenheart Sustainable Construction was contracted to demolish an existing bungalow and construct a new build low energy home. Working alongside Passivhaus Consultant and Designer, Piers Sadler, Greenhouse took S2 Architects design and prepared all construction detailing to meet Passivhaus standards. The original property was crushed on site to provide the majority of hardcore required and gave way for the new house, which was to be built into the hill, allowing the upstairs living spaces to benefit from the stunning views across Box valley.

Greenheart, wanted to maintain the bungalow aesthetic as seen from the road, but also create a semi agricultural look, for this timber framed house, so when it came to choosing a product to install on the roof, Cembrit Cemsix fibre cement sheeting in anthracite was the obvious choice. It not only delivers on the design elements, but also ticked the boxes for a product that was easy to install, affordable, has a long lifespan and only requires low upkeep.

“The main aim for this project was to design and build a very energy efficient house with contemporary material, whilst at the same time, choosing materials that offered longevity, minimal maintenance and had proven environmental credentials” comments Malcolm McMahon, Consultant and Contracts Manager at Greenheart Sustainable Construction. “Cemsix provides the perfect finish to the house — sleek yet easy to maintain and simple to install — and the company itself offered the support we needed on this project, with Phil Lewis, Regional Sales Manager at Cembrit being on hand to help every step of the way. Overall, we are very happy with the end result.”

Greenheart Sustainable Construction has been partnering with The Green Register and hosting Futureproof site visits to this project to talk about the contemporary three-bedroomed timber frame house that has been built to Passivhaus standards. The topics discussed have included the materials used, MVHR, airtightness and methods of construction which are just as relevant to retrofit as new build projects. These site visits have been extremely popular and have sold out.

Cemsix fully compressed corrugated sheet is produced in the traditional 6" UK profile with six corrugations and overlaps/underlaps on both sides of the sheet.
