Moorland dressed edge fibre cement slate is a cost effective alternative to natural slate on a large roof where natural appearance is desired but budget is restricted.

8,000 Moorland dressed edge fibre cement roofing slates have been supplied by Cembrit, the specialist in natural and man made roofing slates, for Rotary Lodge in Worthing, West Sussex. The blue / black slates were used to roof this high quality retirement development of 40 x two bedroom apartments. The random dressed edge gives a natural slate appearance at a much lower material cost per square metre. Particularly effective on low pitches where the surface is not easily seen but the leading edge is still visible Moorland slates are a cost effective alternative to the genuine article.

Installed by roofing contractor Cobsen Davies of Worthing, Cembrit’s slates were used across this development which has been developed by Hanover in partnership with Worthing Borough Council. The apartments are designed for those aged over 60 who want to live in modern spacious apartments that fulfil all their expectations and provide an easy to manage life style in a friendly safe environment.

Norman Courts, Property and Development Director at Hanover: “We are delighted with the look and finish of the roofing slates. Rotary Lodge is a prestigious development and it was only right to use quality building materials throughout – and this includes the Moorland slates from Cembrit.”

Terry Scard, Director of Cobsen Davies: “The slates were very easy to work with and, being pre-holed, were simple to fix. Moorland slates’ smooth surface and dressed edge gives the appearance of a natural slate from floor level, whilst retaining all the fixing and cost benefits of man-made slate. For this job, they were the ideal solution.” Cembrit’s Moorland slate is a distinctive blue-black and is one of the company’s comprehensive range of premium roofing slates for the UK market. Each slate is also pre-holed and offers a consistent size, weight and thickness, ensuring regularity and simplicity when fixing. Furthermore, double slates are available for verges, valleys, hips and areas where it is difficult to achieve the required bonding. Moorland fibre cement slates are cost effective, lightweight, durable and suitable for all types of commercial and residential project.
