Easy to cut with hand tools, Jutland fibre cement slates lend themselves to projects with complex roof geometries such as this care home in Swindon.

8000 Jutalnd fibre cement slates have been used on this stand-out public sector project. Princess Lodge Care Centre in Swindon. Built on the site of the former Princess Margaret Hospital it has an unusual rrof that features large facetted turrets, hips and valleys. The design required a slate that could meet the creative challenge of the design and a tight time-scale. The Blue/Black colouration of the Jutland range was considered an ideal complement to the red brickwork elevations, while the ease of cutting and fixing the slates facilitated the completion of the turrets and other roof features atop the multiple bay windows.

The three-storey, L-shaped plan building is operated by Lifestyle Care PLC and the main contractor Health Care Developments. Jutland was specified by Nigel Appleton owner of The Ashford Hill Roofing Company Ltd who chose Jutland over alternatives for cost reasons and because of his good working relationship with Cembrit.

”The roof design was certainly challenging” comments Nigel Appleton”But with our policy ofemploying only quality, experienced roofers, areas such ads the turrets were no cause for concern – although it would be a challenge for the less experienced. The Jutland slates not only look great, but our roofers on ythe project found them very easy to work with. I also like the service i get from Cembrit. Best of allthe constructors and developers were more than satisfied with the end result”.
