CEMBRIT BRINGS THE HIMALAYAS TO THE SOUTH EAST

Himalayan natural slates here used on a self build project in the south east of England.
Release Date: 18 Dec 2008

Himalayan natural slate from Cembrit, specialist in natural and fibre cement slates, have been used on a self build project in the south east of England. A 1960’s style chalet bungalow has been extensively remodelled and rebuilt with 18,000 slates used on the split level roof and the separate garage.

This ex chalet bungalow has been transformed into a five bed house with only approximately 20% of the original bungalow remaining. Supplied by Days Buildbase Ltd in Farnham, the Himalayan slates were recommended to the home owners by the company and chosen for both their appearance and their longevity.

Himalayan Slate is an attractive pale blue/grey colour with a normal thickness and flatness and a varied surface texture which creates a pleasing aspect on the roof. Produced in the Himachal Pradesh, India, Himalayan slate utilises many of the traditional craft skills of the slate industry. The British military first documented the workings of this slate quarry over 100 years ago and roofs with Himalayan slate can still be seen today over a century later in the surrounding district.

Himalayan slate is available in a range of sizes with slates and halves available. Himalayan slate will withstand the most severe weather conditions and is unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and even acid rain. Laid correctly Himalayan slate will last the lifetime of the building and are ideal for use on any project including prestige homes, supermarkets, schools and city offices.
