The colours of the Duquesa natural slates ensure a perfect contrast with the paintwork of the show homes .
Release Date: 21 Jul 2008

Duquesa natural roofing slate , supplied by Cembrit and installed by Turney Roofing of Ascot, is adding style, character and impressive performance to two new show homes at a picturesque Barratt Homes development in Romsey, Hampshire. The deep blue/black tones of the Duquesa natural slates ensure a perfect contrast with the exterior paintwork of the show homes and put the finishing touch of traditional design to this modern development.

Barratt Homes’ Canal Walk development is in a scenic location - close to Romsey’s historic town centre and nestling between the trees and heathlands of the New Forest to the south west, and the chalk uplands to the northeast of the town. It features two, three, four and five bedroom houses, but despite considerable development in recent years, Romsey retains its relaxed atmosphere and the use of natural building materials forms a key part of the townscape. This ethos extended to the specification of the roof slates.

“The developer is delighted with how the Duquesa slates look on the show homes,” says Mike Turney of Turney Roofing. “They embrace what’s best about traditional building materials in modern day construction: they are full of character, they are hardwearing and they were a joy to fit. From our point of view it is pleasing when a roof slate can tick all those boxes.”

3000 Duquesa natural slates have been used on the two show houses at Canal Walk. A natural Spanish slate of the highest quality, Duquesa is selected from the best deposits and produced by some of the finest quarries in Spain. It is available in two colours: blue black, and grey, and in a variety of sizes. It has a smooth, even texture, and can be relied upon to create an attractive and long lasting roof.

Duquesa has been imported by Cembrit for over 20 years, and has become one of the UK’s leading specified Spanish slates; it will withstand the most severe weather conditions, it is unaffected by sunlight, ultraviolet light and even acid rain and Laid correctly will last the lifetime of the building. Duquesa is ideal for use on any major public or private sector project including; prestige housing, supermarkets, schools, city offices and business parks
