Zeeland slates from Cembrit have helped create a distinctive and technically demanding roofing project in Maidstone. With an appearance that resembles natural slate, and being lightweight and adaptable, Zeeland was the ideal choice for this complex apartment development located on the Medway in the Kent commuter town.
Built by Fairview Homes, the project is built on the site of the site of the old Trebor Sharps sweet factory. The Riverside development features 195 one and two-bed units that combine waterside living with town centre convenience. The river frontage of the development is based on an impressive sweeping curve which incorporates dormers, intersecting gables and hipped roofs. The overall effect when viewed from the nearby high level railway bridge, or the opposite riverbank is stunning.
Installation of the Zeeland slates was by local company, Russell and Russell Roofing. With its attractive riven surface, Zeeland slate has an appearance close to that of natural slate. It is suitable for all types of project, but especially so where presentation is important. Available in Blue/Black, it is lightweight, easy to cut and install and finished with a high quality acrylic coating to both faces and all edges.
Zeeland fibre cement slates are manufactured using Portland cement together with a non-asbestos formulation of superior blended synthetic and cellulose fibres. They are pigmented during production and are fully compressed. They are also manufactured in accordance with a quality assurance system to ISO 9001 and to the requirements of EN 492 product specification for Fibre Cement Slates and their Fittings. Zeeland slate has been awarded the British Board of Agrément certificate 98/3490.
