Cembrit’s, formerly Dansk Eternit, portfolio of small element pitched roofing products was the obvious place to look for a suitable roof covering on arguably Wales’s best known hotel & golf complex, the Celtic Manor resort, Gwent. Imposingly located high above the M4 near Newport, the impressive hotel forms a striking backdrop to the world renowned golf course, set to host the 2010 Ryder Cup.
Developed by Ziegler Walker Management, Canada the project has a strong local background. The client was born in a nursing home on the site, grew up and emigrated to North America, where he was hugely successful. On a visit to his roots he discovered the nursing home had become derelict, and saw the potential for the site.
Local architects the David Preece Partnership, Dinas Powis had already enjoyed excellent service and professional advice on previous projects working with the nearby Cembrit team from Llandow. Cembrit’s charcoal coloured smooth surface fibre cement slate to provide a cost effective sympathetic roof covering made great sense. This was emphasized when the structural engineers, concerned at the severely exposed roof requested a special fixing, and the slates where holed for a 130mm headlap.
Clive Palfrey, Cembrit’s regional manager states, “We were pleased that such an important and significant local project, 97,000 No. 600mmx300mm slates, was entrusted to Camilleri Roofing. They have an unblemished reputation for technically demanding and large scale slating projects.”
Cembrit fibre cement slate is manufactured to the highest European standards. Slates are lightweight, pre-holed, suitable for all types of projects, easy to handle and install, durable and are an economic alternative to natural roofing materials.
Cembrit fibre cement slates are manufactured using portland cement together with a non-asbestos formulation of superior blended synthetic and cellulose fibres. They are pigmented during production and are fully compressed. They are finished with a high quality, semi-matt acrylic coating to both faces and all edges. |
