Cembrit, the cladding specialists, has provided Cemsix corrugated sheets for a new sports changing facility at Hatherop Castle School, Gloucestershire. Providing an appearance suited to a rural setting, the building helps in rationalising school space and blends in well with the rest of the school campus.
This new building has a capacity for 90 children and comprises of 22 showers, toilets and an office and is in use six days a week. Merlin Timber Frame was the design and build contractor for this project. Particular attention was paid to product specification. Only “top end materials” were chosen for this building, which included the corrugated sheets supplied by Cembrit. 3.66m length sheets were required to avoid short lengths and extra cuts, with Cembrit being the only supplier able to provide fibre cement corrugated sheets in this length. The applied colouring of the sheet carries a 10 year guarantee and is applied with state of the art technology making it one of the best sheets available with this method of colouring available in the UK and Europe.
“We opted for Cemsix in anthracite so that it would fit in with the surroundings with a gentle profile shape and sympathetic colour,” says Tom Eggar of Merlin Timber Frame. “We set out from the initial design stage to use high specification products with a reputation for durability. In addition the availability of 3.66m lengths proved a huge advantage. Even using our own labour, we were able to complete the roof covering in two days due to the minimal amount of cutting, drilling and mitring that the product required. The end result of the roof is very neat as the overlaps are all equal. We are very pleased with the appearance and impressed with Cembrit’s product.”
Cemsix is durable, weatherproof and will not rot or decay. It is not affected by destructive fungi, vermin or insects and requires no maintenance to preserve its strength and other properties. It is available in natural grey or pre-coloured. Cemsix is a traditional 6 inch UK corrugated sheet profile and has been tested for fragility, passes the necessary fire regulations and meets the requirements for external spread of flame.
